4 Must-Do Activities in Your Campervan Near Los Angeles
It’s known as the “City of Angels,” and the “Entertainment Capital of the World.” Home to well over 3 million residents, it is the most highly populated city in California, and the second most highly populated city in the United States. While you are visiting Los Angeles, you will find plenty of excitement: the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Disneyland, Griffith Observatory, Getty Center, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and more.
But what if you want to get away from all those crowds? At that point it is time to start the engine of your campervan and drive off for a new adventure. You will find there are plenty of fun activities in the area surrounding L.A. Let’s check out a few of them now.
1. Six Flags Magic Mountain
Disneyland in Anaheim is of course the most famous theme park you can visit in the L.A. area, but it is not the only one. About an hour northwest of the city center, you will come across Six Flags Magic Mountain. Spanning 262 acres, this park offers exhilarating rides and live entertainment. It’s a great alternative if you want to save a little money over Disneyland or just want to visit a different theme park.
2. William S. Hart Museum
You’ll find another attraction on the way to Six Flags Magic Mountain called the William S. Hart Museum. This was the silent film actor and director’s home. You can take a guided tour of the Spanish colonial revival style home and explore exhibits of Western art, Hollywood keepsakes, Native American artifacts, and more. In the nearby Ranch House, you can view Hart’s own tack and saddle collection. Anyone who loves Hollywood history or western films will love every minute of this exciting tour.
3. Silver City Ghost Town
Drive two and a half hours out of Los Angeles past Bakersfield and you will arrive at Silver City Ghost Town just south of Sequoia National Forest. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Kern River Valley and nearby Lake Isabella, this ghost town features 21 historic buildings, and has appeared as a location in many films, music videos and other productions. Take a guided tour or explore the charming old town on your own.
4. The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens
Heading east out of Los Angeles, you will find quite a few exciting desert parks and attractions such as the Salton Sea, Anza Borrego Desert State Park, the Joshua Tree National Park, and Sheephole Valley Wilderness. Just south of Joshua Tree you will find The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens.
This exhibit consists of more than 1,000 acres of desert zoo exhibits. Here you can see amazing animals such as the addax, African wild dog, Arabian oryx, ball python, Barbados blackbelly sheep, bobcat, and Cape porcupine. The numerous exhibits should keep you busy all day, and provide a great educational opportunity for the whole family.
